A Flexible syllabus, enabling training to be tailored to meet specific needs of employers and their employees. It gives employees the opportunity to build and develop more in depth business improvement techniques & skills, whilst increasing the efficiency of the business and team within which they work.
The qualification is designed for those ideally working within production or as a semi-skilled worker, to support their understanding & development within business efficiency.
There are no entry requirements for this qualification, although working within a relevant role is essential in order for the employee to build their work-based portfolio.
The continuous improvement tools can be applied in any working environment from the shop-floor to the office. It requires a whole organisation approach to business improvement where individuals are trained to involve themselves, through effective team working in continuous improvement techniques. Businesses who involve their workforce in improving techniques find an increase in efficiency, motivation & loyalty.
Through gaining this qualification, employees will:
- Understand the concept of continuous improvement
- Understand how, by eliminating waste, reducing defects & organising the workplace, there can be a dramatic improvement in business performance
- Gain an awareness of the most up to date management thinking
- Learn to identify what needs improving, how to get to the root cause of a problem and how to go about improving it
- Achieve a safer organised workplace
To achieve this qualification employees do not have to leave their workplace and there are no set deadlines for completion. Employees will be asked to perform tasks that may or may not be part of their usual working day. Candidates are required to complete in full all mandatory units as well as 2 optional units.

- Carrying out lead time analysis
- Creating visual management systems
- Applying Set-up reduction techniques (SMED)
- Applying total productive maintenance (TPM)
- Applying problem solving techniques
- Carrying out statistical process control procedures (SPC)
- Applying flow process analysis
