Food and Drink Service (Drink only) NVQ Level 2

This course delivers service skills for those working in hospitality and catering. Training covered includes; customer care, food safety and hygiene, team working and drink service.

Who is it for?

The Drink Service is aimed at bar-persons, cellar-persons and possibly bar supervisors across a wide range of catering or hospitality environments. It is also suitable for team members in a quick service environment.

Employees will be confident in all aspects of and drink service including: serving alcoholic and soft drinks, maintaining cellars and kegs, preparation and serving wines, preparing and serving cocktails and dealing with payments.

Eight units must be completed for the full NVQ. Each candidate must
complete all the mandatory units, plus five optional units.

Mandatory units

All must be completed.

  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Contribute to effective teamwork
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Plus five of the following:

Optional units

  • Prepare and clear the bar area
  • Serve alcoholic and soft drinks
  • Prepare and serve cocktails
  • Prepare and serve wines
  • Prepare cellars and kegs
  • Clean drinks dispense lines
  • Prepare and serve dispensed and instant hot drinks
  • Prepare and serve hot drinks using specialist equipment
  • Receive, store and issue drinks stock
  • Maintain and deal with payments
